OOOOH Now I'm Annoyed
OK so up here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest we have a couple of fine establishments that we like to call "auction houses". As if THEY alone are not a big enough pain in our horse loving asses. We have THESE PEOPLE! The Horse Auction Threateners!!! They're by far a very DUMB group of people. You will find these people on Craigslist ALL the fucking time a couple days before an auction. Example??? Here's one!!! http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/grd/899377056.html They "must" sell this horse before Sunday or *gasp* it's going to the auction! You really think that threatening to take your horse will sell it any faster? You know, I frequent the auction regularly as do A LOT of people I know and that I am friends with, and we are all there with pretty much the same thoughts too... "DAMN IT I need to win the LOTTO so I can save all these poor horses!!!" Ugh, the truth is as we all know that sometimes that's just not possible. So HOW DARE these people place an ad THREATENING to take their horse to the auction so we'll hurry up and rescue it before it goes to that awful place! Oh yes but first you're going to try and charge $2,000 for a FUCKING GRADE HORSE because some irresponsible assclown lost the papers. Some people have fucking balls! Just because it ONCE had papers as you are "claiming" does not mean jack. Horse sellers are notorious LIARS!!! I know for a FACT that a lot of us support different rescue groups like S.A.F.E and rejoice when dumb bitches get thrown in jail for horse abuse like Jean Elledge, but the sad truth is that we can't get to them all. Especially in this economy, people are having a hard time GIVING horses away. Of course these "Auction Threateners" also coincide with another group I absolutely can NOT STAND!!! The "I have a twenty-fucking-four year old horse, that I've used and abused and now that it's really old I don't want to take care of it so I'll just DUMP it off on someone else" Example http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/grd/898942917.html You know, I bet that poor old mare or gelding probably gave you it's ALL. Let you booger eating kids climb and play all over him. Took you to your first show, trail ride. Gave you your first blue ribbon, and now, because it's too OLD and "useless" you want to dump it off??? OOOOOH I LOATHE YOU!!! You should never be able to own another horse if that's how you treat them... Use 'em til they're useless huh?!?! NOW believe me, we all know that there are some circumstances in which we have no control over that may force us to part with our beloved pals, and if I've posted your ad and you're one of the "exceptions" I apologize. BUT, for those fine people who are just A-holes!! You can Kiss our A$$!!

Ok, I have to say, I'm so on the fence with your second point. I know of some people who have kept the good ol' boy who carried the kids through shows, fairs, parades, AFTER being dad's cow horse, ect. After the horses were done "being useful", their care really fell to the wayside. They were fed, had shelter, water, mostly regular worming and hoof care, but were no longer treated as the best buddy they used to be.
Now, if posting like the second craigslist places this ol kid with someone who would love to have a horse to look at, brush, and treat like a pet, then I think that's great. However, 'dumping' a horse after his supposed useful life is done is bullshit. There's no loyalty or respect in that.
I guess this also comes from the fact that I knew an older lady how had ridden all her life, but was way past that point in her life, husband had died, ect. She had about 3 horses that recieved the best care, and it just warmed her heart and took her back to her younger days to see her three "kids" fat, happy, and content in her care.
But someone looking to unburden themselves to just anyone of a horse that has been a loyal companion? Just f*ing WRONG.
Yeah and I totally agree with you on that! It's the people who unburden themselves, that drive me nuts, no the genuine people who just hit a rough patch... Very good call!!!
Like these??

On a side note, if I was looking for a horse, I'd be on the road right now for this one...

Not the prettiest head (from the looks of the picture) but she sure looks nice otherwise!
You hit the nail on the head 2toads!! :):):):):)
Sarcastabitch,
I think the point was that it sucks when horses that have been safe, faithful, and willing companions are dumped by owners simply because the owners have moved on to bigger/better/different things. I feel we have an obligation to give back to the horses who have been our friends as much as they have given to us, provided the ability is there. If the owner is no longer able, for whatever reason, I still think that it's the owner's responsibilty to make sure the next owner can provide the same or better care than you were able to.

about the "auction threateners". have you ever ran into anyone who bought the threat? well, now you have. 2 years ago we paid $500 each for two unbroke registered arabian mares. had went with a friend to see horses and found 8 starving, unsheltered, pathetic arabs. our friend bought 5 and we bought 2. friend got one mare for $350 cause she could barely stand. we left the stallion because none of us felt qualified to have one.(i did notify his breeder) animal control had already been there and told them to get rid of horses. the owner was very clear that she could get more at a slaughter auction than we were paying. fast foward 2 years-after immense farrier, vet and food bills, plus sooooooo much rehab work(cattle prods were the previous training tool of choice)we are finally adopting them out. mare #1 has a wonderful home and will be their riding horse(she was a halter horse before). mare #2 has an adoption pending as a brood mare, too many issues to ever be a trustworthy mount, but has good conformation, ground manners and great blood lines. oh, and we are adopting them out for free. yep, lesson learned. i am glad they will be loved now, but never again!
Tex i could NOT agree more:):):)
Wow, it's so sad to see an old horse like that be cast aside...

Sarcastabitch said"Oh, sorry, did you NOT imply that all trainers advertising on Craigslist are wacked [sic] out wannabes?"
Can you please tell me where that's posted? I can't seem to locate it...
So Trainer X seems to have hit a cord with you, are you the type who talks over the trainer, who doesn't listen, then can't figure out why YOUR SO FUCKED UP!?! Seriously, what is your vendetta against Trainer X? She is a wonderful trainer.. I should know, she's mine!
ahhh, yes, Trainer X that's exactly what she is... A TROLL! but she is entertaining us.. ya gotta give her that. I know she's made me laugh with her petty & ridiculous attempts at humor and comebacks. I’m beginning to wonder if she sees herself in any of these pictures.. maybe she’s the one training her horse to rear, or the one who wants $15,000 for her in utero foal... I know she’s not the one in the Perfect Horse, or the wife of the Horse Husband... (that’s me) Maybe she’s that wonderful toe-headed 8yo’s MOTHER!!! LMAO!!!
yup you got me my name is Shaina, and yes I'm dying to be a Bad-as *snort* you are not a bright person if you can't even make fun of me properly. Now as I recall "Shaina's" ad was from San Fran. I am in Seattle. God damn in battle of wits YOU my dear are UN-FUCKING-ARMED!!!!!
Just jumped over here from fugly. I had to see what your profile pic was and clicked on your blog.
I once left a scathing note on an ad for a dog that we, the public, were going to send to the pound if no one took it. You see, his owners were moving to a place that didn't allow pets and whoops, we forgot we had a dog when we signed the rental agreement. I must have stood there for 10 minutes writing them a mouthful. People like that go under the heading PIG FUCKER!
I read the same ad's today on CL thinking the same thing. Go ahead and send them to the Enumclaw auction- you'll only get $50.
Yeah exactly, they won't get jack for the horse with the market being like this. So they'll sell it for $50, Ron will get his cut and a number is $35 so oooooohh what a profit!! DUMB!!
I have a horse whose previous owners only saw its pedigree (Bask, Barbary, BIG MOVING horses). Trained it for two years. It was not successful, and his girl wanted him trained huntseat instead of saddleseat. Her parents said, ride the horse, or we'll give it away. They gave the horse away, and he lickily found his way to us instead of a sale. He was a nurvous stall baby who couldn't go downhill and had no social skills at all. Turns out to be a superb trail horse and a great hunter/dressage prospect, with NO HINT OF A BIG HIGH TROT AT ALL! He has found a forever home with me, that's for sure. If I have to live off ramen to pay for his board while I live in a car, I'll do it for him. He deserves it.
