Something for Nothing and Nothing for Something...

A. The Market sucks
B. Too many grade, untrained, broken down horses
C. No money to support said horses.
I can Haz for $200.00???----------------------->

So, a lot of people as you can see by your local craigslist or dreamhorse ad, are in desperate need to rid themselves of their horses. Horses that either, they bred, bought cuz it's perty, or oh my holy hell who knows!! So then WHY is it that is these people are desperate to rid themselves of these" burdens" are they so retarded??? Here's an example: http://www.dreamhorse.com/show_horse.php?form_horse_id=1334243
OK, now, in who's F-ing lifetime would pay 4K for this horse... mmmmm not me. As a matter of fact I feel as though my intelligence has been insulted... BOYS AND GIRLS! DO NOT spend all of this money on a horse that is so far from worth it. It's not reg. not 100% trained well, OK, 4K worth of training and it's 13 yrs old!

It's funny because a lot of people contact me for horses. "Do you have a perfect, kid-safe pretty, easy keeper, that will win all the time?? Oh and I'd like to buy that for $800" I'm sorry wha...?

What was that? You're an idiot? Oh OK I'm glad we understand each other now. It always goes BOTH ways!! Either people have a horse that is ugly, lame, broodmare only, grade, old, blah blah, that they need 80 bazillion dollars for, because he's sooooooooooo worth it. OR you have some LOOKING for EVERYTHING in a horse and want to pay, mmmmm 50 bucks...
You can Haz for $40,000---------------------->

You know who can be the biggest culprits out all of them?? Trainers! HA! It's true. Trainers, think they are all knowing and all wonderful that they can turn horse poop into diamonds!! WOW!! I"d love to meet that person. I've got A LOT of crap and I could use some damn diamonds! You never hear anyone say "you're full of Diamonds." Now do you? Nope it's ALWAYS, "YOU are full of SHIT!" And for good justifiable reasons...

People ALWAYS want SOMETHING for NOTHING! Amazing, immaculate horse = $50 and of course NOTHING for SOMETHING crappy, horse non broke, bad conformation = $10,000!
Buyer AND seller beware! KNOW your market. Google names and farms, call your vet, farrier, friend, anyone NON-biased to the horse you're looking at. Consider age, soundness, feet, what the horse has done. A 20 yr old horse who spent 10 yrs on the track and 8 doing Grand Prix Jumping is NOT going to BODE well for you!!! Oh and of course Back yard breeders! STOP IT YOU ASS HATS!!! We have ENOUGH to choose from. THANKS!

So, didja check out the website for the $4000 pony?

I'm still laughing... go to gallery, and horses.

What the...????

Skinny bitch- yes, I'm jealous, but still wouldn't be posting pictures like that if I was minus the extra 15 I'm packing!

2toads2luv said...

Then this is the picture you post on your instructor page? I haven't had an equation lesson in a long time, so maybe this is the way things are nowadays...

OMG!!!! So not only is equitation beyond AWEOSME, but she's a super skank too!! What a professional! *I just threw up in my mouth* C'mon 2toads, you know you want her as your trainer!!!!

I'm packing up and moving to Oregon right now. You know I am!! Wanna come along? Bet we could both learn something, based on those photos!

I mean SERIOUSLY!!! She's teaching little girls about ponies, the animals look great, that's all fine and dandy. But what the fuck is up with those pictures? I would really have to wonder why someone I'm sending my child to for instruction would be 1) dressing like that/showing that much skin 2) posting those photos on the web (the tramp stamp, REALLY?) 3) setting such a wonderful equation example. If ol' Speedy she's sitting on actually did get a fire under his ass, she'd be gone! Or at least hauling on the reins to get herself back center!

IMAGE IS EVERYTHING, especially when you're using pictures to prove you know something.

I'm still laughing in disbelief.

LMAO!! I know WTF?!?! What do you even say to that?!?!? I'm thinking someone needs a high five to the face.....

2toads2luv said...

Why can't they all be as smart and perfect as us?

Trainer X said...

You know, I'm still trying to figure that out myself....

Its true, my barn went to a couple of Auctions, one back in August, got a REGISTERED, nice looking Arabian mare, bred to a REGISTERED Percheron. about 100. and 2 weeks ago they went to a sale, got a pretty standardbred mare, seems she will be good, this mare won a lot on the track-145. Some of the less healthy looking horses went for 10 dollars, and quite a few went to a kill buyer unfortunately.

Ugh, I don't like how that trainer discoureges parents from watching, I think that is a little sketchy, the fact that they rather have NO ONE watch...sketchy. Spectators aren't that distracting and if the child ever hopes of competing they need to get use to being watched.

Trainer X said...

If a trainer EVER says, you can't watch, parents can't watch, bascially anything that keeps you from knowing what's going on with your horse or child. Run like hell!! That is a BAD BAD Business practice!!!

2toads2luv said...

If anyone said I couldn't watch while my kid got a lesson, I'd say, Ok.

And leave. With my kid. And call the bank and cancel payment on the check.

Trainer X said...

OH! She doesn't accept checks anyway... I smell a beat down coming on! 2Toads? Eh? Beat Down in Oregon?

2toads2luv said...

Ugh, that "requirements" page makes me shudder, both as a past instructor and current parent.

Roper style western boots... heaven forbid the poor kid whose parents can't dish out $60+ on ropers, ariat fat babies, john deere johnny poppers. Why not just leave it at "cowboy boots"?

24 hour cancellation notice for "prep time"? How long does it take to throw a halter and saddle on a pony? And they all look stalled, thus further reducing grooming time.

And to even SUGGEST parents leave their kids is at the very least, STUPID. I totally agree overbearing parents can really affect (effect? I can't ever remember) a lesson, asking a parent to be a quiet observer is different that flat out suggesting they LEAVE. I personally wouldn't be comfortable with that. Sure as hell not as a parent, but not as an instructor, either.

I want to make sure the parents have no doubt their kids will be safe in my care. That doesn't happen by kicking a parent out to go shopping.

Grab your coat sister, I'm almost to your house. Or barn, wherever you are. ;-)

2toads2luv said...

Oh yeah. No checks? Hmmm...

Put a note in there, if you have a legit reason. 'No checks accepted due to... ' People are going to wonder, so you might as well answer the question.

I'm done.

As for leaving my kids with someone.... No don't think so. That's just a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Trainer X said...

Well and as a little kid, you want to show your parents what you've learned... Plus if I were a parent then I want to know I'm getting my money's worth!!! Ugh... She is An assplug!

Trainer X said...

And I've been giving lessons and been in barns all my life! And I have NEVER heard of "Oh you can't have spectators watching or around the barn." BS!!! That is BS!

Malauree said...

I remember getting lessons as a child. My grandmother would take me. They had an area set aside for parents. In FULL VIEW of the arena. Most of the time my Grandma would be reading. But she was THERE and no one told her not to be.

Sorry this is still boggling my mind that she actually thinks parents wouldn't have a problem with it. Shesh. I give lessons to some friends kids. Just as a favor. I like having the parents there. They are learning just as much as their kids.

Trainer X said...

OMG If someone told my mother that she couldn't watch me ride, the SHIT would have not only hit the fan but would've made a small nuclear explosion!!

Man, that "trainer" needs to
a)put some more clothes on
b)never, ever show that tattoo again

THAT place is a trainwreck waiting to happen, for many, many reasons...and it's not going to be because of any spectators.

*sigh* I'm sure we'll soon see
"Going out of Business! ALL OUR BELOVED HORSES MUST GOOOOOOO! (or they'll go to the stockyards on Tuesday...)".

Yikes.

Trainer X said...

KC~ *snork* I know right?!?!?! Ugh... I really want to go down there and pretend I'm a prospective student or mom, or whatever. she how she interacts, see the place. And then just explain to her exactly HOW much of a train wreck she is. Any takers for a road trip???

Trainer X said...

Wait... I have noticed a few more things I'd like to point out.
1. The farm is a mere 4.5 hours away from me. :)
2. Either it's the picture, or her tattoo is crooked. :D
3. She has snaggleteeth :E

HA!

Mercy Me
is right on, as a name.
That is creepy.
Beautiful place, "instructors" that don't seem to know how to actually ride (The ONE trot picture is downright pathetic. Can you say, still learning? Of course you can).
Pretty, annoyed looking horses.
Hope those kids are safe:(
Yeah, what is with the tattoo thing? Are we advertising to parents here, or pedophiles?
It smells funny. I hope I'm wrong.
eeeesh.

To Horses, have mercy.

Ya know what bugs me? If they'er selling something, why don't they shine it all up. I'm in sales for myself. I have to look half decent. Everywhere except the barn after a lesson, I ain't so glamourous.

And adults on little horses. That bugs me too.

$4000...maybe if there were 10 of the little fuglys to pull my cindyrella carriage.

One of the first steps of horsemanship is saddle placement. I don't think it's just me, when it appears as though the horses neck is being ridden more then his back. Call me crazy but when the saddle flaps are over the shoulder blades, kinda puts a bit of a dent in the nice free movement of the shoulder. I think the instructor picture is just a unfortunate confusion, wrong transportation, she meant to be driving her car.

Here here sister! Last year, I purchased a very neurotic and mentally damaged unregistered Arabian mare for $500. My sole purpose was to rehab her, as I love working with problem horses. We managed to work out most of the kinks, but she still has some issues that needed to be resolved - issues we were extremely matter of fact and honest about ON her sale page. The listed price? $1500. She was a beautiful mover, and BORN to be in an arena where she was quiet as sin and unbelieveably quick to learn. On the trails? NO. So what do we get? Message after message from people looking for a bombproof quiet trail horse! Seriously, was there a day I missed when EVERYONE stopped understanding English? It's like everyone saw the low price for a well trained animal and went "OH, SHE'S PERFECT, NEVERMIND SHE'LL PROBABLY KILL ME AND BREAK A LEG WHEN A CAR DRIVES BY."

We finally settled for $1000 and she went to a nice family with kids interested in horses. The rehab was more important then the money, but for crying out loud, it's amazing what people CHOSE to take out of an ad when they see a "good price"!

I am fascinated by this lady's website. If that is one of her students on the bay horse, wtf is up with her hands? I'm curious as to why that is really the only "in action" picture of anyone riding. Everyone else is standing in place or walking.

As far as the parent/spectator thing, I think it is important that the parent is part of their child's riding experience. Although, I do seriously hate the moms that find it necessary to scream random things at random times. Yeah, there is a reason I say certain things at certain times. Especially when it is a 5 year old. They can't do everything at once. Jesus.

/end rant.

Trainer X said...

I swear half the time people are only looking at the price and not the horse!! *headdesk* IT's always about dollars, whether spending them or trying to make them!!!

CDietz said...

Kinda off topic from the blog, but yeah, the tattoo is horrible. Crooked, and look at the horse's nose, it looks like it has a lump on the nose. I know they were attempting to show the other nostril, and show perspective. It is still an awful tattoo. Embarrassing.

+++++++++++

OMG, me too! I keep going back to it, thinking, is this really for real? REALLY????? People write that shit and post those kind of pictures on their website they're using to try and attract parents of young rides?

Seriously.

I'll bring the hot butter rum for the road trip!

Nicole Falk said...

Trainer X - I doubt I'll EVER make money off horses because the perfect home is all that ever seems to matter to me. After costs, we most definately lost money selling Szerina for $1000, but knowing she's with a loving family who will treat her well and give her a good stable home is better then all the money in the world.

Trainer X said...

I agree Mikolaj, in fact unless you're a soulless, lying, conniving human, making money or at least a lot of it. Is a hard thing to do in this profession... I'm all for finding the right home for the right horse. Not the cash. Now I'd be a liar if I said that I gave away the farm every time I made a transaction. But no, I do make a profit as I should in the overall grand scheme of things. But that's in the OVERALL picture. eaning I lose some money here, gain a bit more there.

OOOOOOH I LOOOVE hot butter RUM!!!

2toads2luv said...

There are those who care... and those who don't. Those who care will go to unbelievable lengths financially and emotionally to place a horse in a good home.

Then there are the asshats who see only $$$.

And it's always the horses what will suffer with the latter group.

Trainer X said...

Pretty much and believe me I've had it with the suffering of the innocent... ESPECIALLY over some damn dollars!

There is a fugly 20 yr old arabian for sale at my friend's barn. The owners have him for sale stating he is 7 yrs old and they want $2,500!!! *rolls eyes*

Trainer X said...

Oooooh 2500 for a 20 yr old sign me up!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

gulp...guess you think the old girl I was looking at was *far* from a bargain!
I think sometimes people purposely overprice to eliminate buyers looking for a "cheap" horse.
Granted, a fugly 20 year old arabian being advertised as 7 is just WRONG, no matter what they are asking for!
