Horses and Whores

So, I may get yelled at for this post, but I could care less. It's 103 degrees in SEATTLE, It has never been this hot we have broken several records today with the heat and I am CRANKY LOL. So moving on... To me, personally, I take riding very seriously, I am a pretty well known trainer in the area and I bust my back to get to get there and keep it that way. So when I see stupid people come into the horse world and try to use their lame ass celeb status, it irritated the crap out of me. Case and point. Katie Price.

She's a former topless model and I'm OK with that, she's a newbie in Dressage and riding in general and I'm OK with that, but now she has come out with her own equestrian clothing for both horse and rider and I want to slap her in the mouth for it. It's TRASH! It does not represent the class and etiquette that makes horses, especially DRESSAGE, what it should be. PLUS in the horse world, Katy is a big, fat NOBODY!!! She has done NOTHING great or even remotely impressive. In this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAyEnZqzkqs&feature=player_embedded of her riding, it is sub par and it is what I would expect a beginner rider to look like. Her legs aren't stable, nor is her hands and arms.

The poor pony in the picture also looks as though it wants to kill itself. Just look at it's eyes! This whole thing is just useless garbage that needs to be burned. If I buy something name brand it will have the name Pessoa, George Morris, Clinton Anderson, or John Lyons attached to it. Not some stupid Porno celeb that has done NOTHING for the horse community except make it look skanky and cheap! So here's a thought Katie, good for you for getting into horse's, but how about we concentrate on learning how to ride BETTER and get off the stupid clothing line that is as useless and pathetic as if it were done by Pam Anderson herself.

It's such trash that I would like to scream at her at the top of my lungs. And in fact, it seems I'm not the only one... Look her up on google "Katy Price Horse." People in the horse world are not thrilled and rightly so. If this is the new wave of horse riders and clothing and tack, then I'm out of here, I'm getting into showing bunnies!!!

there's so much wrong with that... i don't even know where to start! what an obnoxious shade of pink!

Give it 5 minutes...her little pony will get tired of all this, do the pony thing and knock her off. She'll break a nail and deflate one of those implants...and all will be back to life without pink ponies...except for in the kid's open classes where it occasionally is fun to see.

Have you guys seen the new horse box she had custom made to carry these poor animals????

Take pleasure in the crash, it will come...

Even if her background was more classically equine, the product line won't work. Every product developer must know thy market, and the market that 75% of equine businesses are chasing after is 40+, affluent, two-income, college-educated... basically, the Dressage Today reading audience.

American companies that try to throw out these outlandish colors or even try to mimic the classic preppiness of English companies like Joules all end up on clearance racks: have you gotten the Sales edition of Dover Saddlery this month? Items that debuted with a lot of fanfare, like Equine Couture for the ladies, and Pony Palooza for the children, are all marked down to cost.

Meanwhile the classics live on, and you'll see that even when Kerrits or Irideon get a little too wild, the public lets them know about it and those colors and patterns end up on the closeout lists.

(Sidenote: If you're brave and have a little ready cash, the closeout faxes are interesting ways to buy stock to sell on eBay. Equestrian retail is fascinating.)

Why do beginners wear big-arse spurs?

Just why??

That horse in the video..
:(

He's a saint.

Oh, and the Dressage Today audience? Female. As if that really needed to be added. :)

um.
I can see that maybe pink is her favorite color...but overkill much?
I agree, concentrate on becoming a better horse person, not a freaking "clothing line."
I've shown bunnies. Its fun :P However, they arent QUITE as fun as horses.

Ya know, I feel bad for all the animals that are subject to the wrath of an obnoxious celebrity...its like Hiltons chihuahua...everybody wanted one after that-hope that doesnt happen with horses!!!

Wow... none of that pony's attire fits, the polos are not wrapped correctly, and...

ITS HOOVES ARE PINK. I bet that will never come off.

Wish we all could be as PERFECT as you Steph. Some of the people who read this really know who you are. Becare about calling yourself a professional

Um, I have no idea who Katie Price is - but my eyes hurt after looking at the picture of her and that poor horse in that bright pink shade.

hey, it's JANE!!
Wow, aren't you articulate?
Where's tarzan?

;)

Haven't seen a troll in ages here..

becare, eh?

I don't believe Tx has ever said she was perfect.
Are you?

Ooo I hate Katie Price. Who the hell wears booty shortys and slutty tank tops to the barn? There was one picture of her that they put on youfugyoruself.com of her with two minis, with their leads dragging on the ground and her wearing high heels and her own line of shank wear.

Even non-riding bloggers have something to say about how atocious her riding gear is: http://www.bestweekever.tv/2009-3-23/horses-are-having-the-worst-week-ever/

Hmmmmm no, no I don't ever recall saying I was perfect.... How Bizzare.

i think i just threw up in mouth a little.........................................ms. skanky needs to go find a new hobby
and didn't she ask for a million dollar horse to take her to the olimpics once???

OMG... it's so funny you blog about this. I looked up her line today...

and ew.

I saw a picture of her on a horse in some sweet looking tall boots - not remotely from her line. I was interested in the boots. Nowhere to be found. Just trashy looking crap. I"m glad you said 'why' she's famous because I've read her name here and there and didn't have a clue why. Topless model? Figures after looking at the line. Most of it is just atheletic wear not even riding clothes. Sad... though I WAS surprised it wasn't insanely priced... hideous and cheap. PERFECT!

Wow, makes me just...stunned! Hey, at least that stuff makes my worst 70's fashion mistakes plumb okey dokey...
Horse is a saint, but there's not one part of the person he's toting around that remotely resembles a rider.

Having seen both the pictures of the clothing lines and the super duper pink horse box, the only thing I can say is, at least she didn't show up in a Girls Gone Wild bus that had been converted into a trailer. Probably not much appreciation from the conservative dressage set. Oh well, like I said, at least it wasn't Girls Gone Wild. That is the nicest thing I can think of to write.

I think you are being terribly harsh considering. So what if she makes clothes like that. You won't be hurt by it, and you won't see it on a show circuit anytime soon. Besides, I like obnoxious fun colors for fiddling around.

Besides, why are you so threatened by these? (sorry, don't know how to do links)

I mean, my god, I see worse stuff than that in department stores. Just because one picture of her is sleezy, doesn't mean it all is.

WiltedZebra said...

I'm terribly sorry if I have left the impression that I am threatened by this. I have no desire to start a line of anything except straight bands in a mane. If you enjoy her clothing, go for it, I applaud you, you are a better (and more fit) woman than I. I merely found it entertaining. It makes me think of Lady Catherine asking Elizabeth Bennet if the shades of Pemberly are to be thus polluted. No offense meant, just funny to me.

The clothing line is obnoxious. She's an okay rider, and views on her and insanely divided in the dressage world. She plans on going to the Olympics. I say "hell, why not?" to that. Hopefully they'll judge her honestly and we won't have what happened in 2008, the well-the-horse-majorly-spooked-twice-in-the-same-routine-but-hey-she's-German-and-we're-German-too-so-let's-give-her-the-gold stunt they pulled. They still haven't gotten around to rejudging that!

btw the heat, hopefully you won't have it for over two months like it has been here in Texas. That is really weird though! Seattle!!!

That would look good on my fairy gelding. *ducks*

There are 2 types of people I really hate, celebs who think they can do everything and anything they want, and riders (*cough* Anky *cough*)who win a few blue ribbons suddenly think they know everything and can ride (suddenly) in every discipline. I don't mind people creating their own fashion lines for horses, but when their celebs who know nothing, it drives me nuts *bangs head*. I agree with livnlaf, once she realizes shes chipped a nail on the horse and starts flipping out, he'll buck her off and she'll deflate both implants and will be gone for good. I hate hollywood in some aspects. Golightly, another thing I hate about celebs, they buy highly expensive horses, because they can, and because they think they know everything, will ride said poor animal in the ground. And they wouldn't hire any instructor, oh no they would have to be internationally known. Because if they passed on the title and looked at the skills of said person, it would be like shoe fashion suicide by shoping at payless -_-;.

horsndogluvr said...

Too much pink!

Poor Katie, always standing as if her implants were the most important thing about her.

When are we going to figure out that the mainstreaming of porn does nothing but assist the people who want to reduce women to mere penis receptacles?

Let's imitate men in a different way. Let's wear clothes that cover us, but still manage to be attractive. Let's call people like Katie Price "trash." Let's raise our daughters to imitate people who are *worth* imitating - not skanks like Spears and Hilton.

Oops, got on my soapbox. Sorry.

Nope, no pink will ever appear on my horses as any kind of tack or decoration. Especially not Pepto-bismol pink. The first thing I did to this house, after we bought it, was to paint the P-B-pink "accent walls" a nice shade of tan.

I'm SO glad my niece has given up loving pink. Now it's lime green - but anything's better than pink!!

Scuze me while I get the brain bleach.

Well stated, Wilted Zebra! I adore Pride and Prejudice, and I think it fits here.

Well I can't go look at the pix right now but I SO agree about celebs and other gauche rich people who think that money will buy them everything. Also the other day I spotted a young woman in a hoodie with some stable's logo on it, aqua breeches and field boots with shiny croc print tops with silver doodads..

I also agree that overt sexuality is NOT the way to get ahead in life!! Can we pleeeease get more positive female role models out there? Could we get true elegance and individual bits of style back in vogue??

And baggy or flared breeches while we are at it?

cattypex said...

P.S. Just because you can button it, doesn't mean it FITS.

This is why women get crude remarks when they tell immature blokes they horse ride. I'm all for her getting into horses and competing, I don't even mind the tasteless horsewear(Although I would never buy it) but when she stands there looking like she's modelling for a porn mag and still complaining that people in the horse world don't take her seriously... then I bristle.

thecityhorse said...

Ok... wow it's really tacky.. the horse wear especially... but the jean breeches and some of the tops, I'm guilty.. I'd wear it. Not to show, but to putz around at the barn? Totally... I could find way worse at Macy's anyday. And props for the protective vest. It's hideous, but maybe more teenyboppers would be apt to wear it (and don't the xcountry set go for loud colors?)

What a joke, the fact that she still is looking down at her diagonals shouldnt you know them before you even deserve spurs?!
