Now We're Talking!!!!

So a friend of mine came across this website. http://www.horseproblems.com.au/Horseproblems%20home%20page.htm
It is written by a man named John O'Leary, he is a horse trainer in Australia. He uses a LOT of the same methods that I DO!!! And let me tell you, I'm in love....

He is all about using training techniques on the horse that makes SENSE. He doesn't do things just because, he does it because it logically makes sense to him and the horse. He communicates with the horse by using the consequence and reward system. Meaning that if a horse pulls back and he ties the horse so that it is uncomfortable while pulling. THAT is the horse's consequence. When it stops pulling and decides relaxing and not pulling is easier and less uncomfortable that is the horse's reward.

The horse, despite what people think is NOT that dumb. John happens to explain that very well, however, like with all informative horse training sites, take them at face value, although I do think he is pretty spot on with some of his theories...

I have heard of John O' Leary before but can't remember where. Good methods like his are undervalued but so much MORE valuable than crap like Parelli.

Agreed with TPH, Parelli is a joke lol. But this man is good. I turned to him when I needed help finding stuff to do with my two year old filly. He's a great guy. I guess the best horsemen come from Australia :D

"I guess the best horseman come from Australia"

I have to agree - lol

My horse would not load when I got him - it took 3 hours to get him on the trailer. Having only had horses that loaded easily up until that point, I didn't have lots of clues what to do. I was told to follow the Parelli method(by the subject of my blog, no less) and it did not work at all. It just pissed off the horse. The video was worthless - Parelli mainly just kept talking about his other videos you must buy to do some of the groundwork he was talking about. Hah. Thank gooodness I borrowed the video and didn't waste my $$.

I watched a Clinton Anderson show on trailering on RFDtv and tried that technique on my boy and it worked like a charm. My horse is a stubborn Appy (is there any other kind??) - once you know what to do he did it right away.
