Fight For It...
Oh fun fun... It was another auction Sunday and it was PACKED!! There were a lot of horses, some really nice and some that were beyond sickly, starved. Here's the deal... My biggest pet peeve of the whole darn thing...CLEAN up your damn horses!!!! Do not bring them to the auction dirty, filthy, with 4 inches more hoof than they should have and STARVED!!! You are not doing your horse any justice by not riding it in either, or at least put a saddle on it. You want to sell your horse, I get that and you probably want to make a buck on it too. So get off your fat, lazy asses even a week prior to the auction and do some work with your horse. Get a saddle on it, give it a bath and a nice hoof trim. Yeah cause know how hard it is to pick a brush for crying out loud. Give these horses a FIGHTING CHANCE to get a god home for god's sake!!!! People are oh so worried about slaughter and the kill buyers. Well hey, they are just doing their job, as nasty as it may be, but it is more the horse OWNER'S fault than anything for bringing their rag tag, dirty, gangly, un trained (Let's halter break the horse's people!), horses to the auction... Makes me SICK!!! Ugh... End Rant...

Amen sister.
Feed you horse! Clean it up, trim it's feet and put a halter on that fits!
Is that too much to ask?
For some I guess it is.
Totally agree! I went to an auction once, horses were somewhat clean, some registered that had papers (but most registered were fugly paints), some good horses that are just plain stressed out and cracked in the pen. I was disapointed, but there were no kill buyers there, only one BIG dealer and he usually resells the horses to good homes. Most horses went to good homes, some went back home. I live in a secluded part of Canada and most horses that are sold at auction (unless being a beef auction) will not go to meat. My pet peeve about this is people that take their horse to auction and then don't sell them because they can't bear the price it's going for.... if you bring him to auction... it's because you are willing to accept that the horse sells for any amount of money... for me auction is a last resort when you can no longer keep your horse... still had many good horses and a pony (welsh) that sold for over $1,200.00!
Nothing annoys me more (other than skinny uncared for horses) is the person who comes in, riding their western horse with two hands and tries to cover up good training with speed. They man-handle the horse around, while it has it's head in the air with it's mouth pried wide open, while the jackass rider tries to make it spin or slide in a 20 foot sale ring. Most of these "cattle rings" have cement floors with a little sawdust over them and it's only a matter of time until the horses spinning around, fall. Too many seller think speed shows that the horse is broke, but the horses usually can't neck rein or even know the basics. Then so yahoo buys it for their kid and surprise!
Oh yeah! Had a client show up with 'new pretty auction horse.' Horse had big chafe marks on his lips...turned out to be a bucking fool. They rode him into the ring though.
It was harder to retrain that horse than if he'd been totally green.
